About This Blog:

The primary purpose of this blog is to showcase the best of my aviation photography. As such, you will find links to my main aviation gallery on Facebook containing photos from aircraft spotting, some kind of aviation event such as air shows and fly-in events, as well as aviation museums. I also critique my flights on commercial airlines and the services they provide. Occassionally, you'll find personally written, independent articles based on news and current events involving aviation. And of course, I'll put up links to official and unofficial aviation-related websites when I find them. And when time permits, I'll talk and discuss about anything involving aviation. But most importantly, this is my way to document my journey into the aviation industry!

Gallery Update: Chasing an ERJ-145XR in Idaho Falls!

I'm back in eastern Idaho to attend a friend's wedding as well as the Legacy Flight Museum Air Show (which happens to be on the same day tomorrow!). I casually looked at FlightAware and FlightRadar 24 an noticed something about airline service at Idaho Falls. It appears that some of United Airlines' regional flights between Idaho Falls and Denver have shifted over to another regional carrier in addition to SkyWest, which has been the dominant regional airline serving Idaho Falls. Operating out of United's Denver hub, Bridgeton, Missouri-based Trans States Airlines (subsidiary of Trans States Holdings) is now serving Idaho Falls doing business as United Express using Embraer ERJ-145s! Given that I never photographed the largest member of the ERJ family, nor have I photographed a Trans States airframe, I decided to head down to Idaho Falls for a quick spotting excursion.

Airframe first delivered to ExpressJet Airlines in November 2003 operating under the Continental Express banner until the United/Continental merger, where it was then re-branded as United Express. Transferred to Trans States in February 2015, when the regional carrier began replacing all their shorter-range ERJ models for the -XR (extra long range) models.

Trans States Airlines currently operates for United Airlines (United Express) and American Airlines (American Eagle) operating solely various ERJ models. However, American Airlines has declined to renew its contract with Trans State for American Eagle operations in 2019. Tran States' "Waterski" call sign and 3-letter ICAO identifier "LOF," which stands for 'Lodge of the Four Seasons', are from the early days when the company was operated as Resort Air (first founded in 1982).
