After a long morning at work, I noticed via FlightAware that a new variant of the Embraer Legacy business jet family was flying into Salem today, the EMB-550 Praetor 600. Unveiled at the 2018 National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) convention, the Praetor 500 and 600 are improved variants of the Legacy 450 and 500, respectively, with more range. The improvements were accomplished by retrofitting a new, taller and wider winglets for greater efficiency, and two additional ventral fuel tanks on the fuselage belly (specific only to the Praetor 600).
Performance wise, the Praetor 500, based off the Legacy 450 boosts the fuel capacity from 12,108 pounds to 13,058 pounds, to match the standard Legacy 500. Current Legacy 450s can be converted and upgraded into Praetor 500s for about half a million dollars. The Praetor 600, based on the Legacy 500, is given two long, ventral fuel tanks mounted in the fuselage belly, increasing fuel capacity from 13,058 pounds to 15,986 pounds. In addition, the Praetor 600 is equipped with the more powerful Honeywell HTF7500E engines.
