About This Blog:

The primary purpose of this blog is to showcase the best of my aviation photography. As such, you will find links to my main aviation gallery on Facebook containing photos from aircraft spotting, some kind of aviation event such as air shows and fly-in events, as well as aviation museums. I also critique my flights on commercial airlines and the services they provide. Occassionally, you'll find personally written, independent articles based on news and current events involving aviation. And of course, I'll put up links to official and unofficial aviation-related websites when I find them. And when time permits, I'll talk and discuss about anything involving aviation. But most importantly, this is my way to document my journey into the aviation industry!

Gallery Update: An Evening in Portland

An opportunity I've been waiting for came up and I jumped on it. For several weeks now, I've been waiting for one of Icelandair's 757s to fly into Portland and today was the day! A little over a year ago, Icelandair unveiled a new special livery (only their second one!) in celebration of the 80 years of aviation in Iceland, this time show-casing a beautiful glacier-theme. Based on previous flight tracking, this particular 757 has made visits to Portland in the past, but it's been a while until today! In addition to going after the Icelandair special, a few other notable highlights from the spotting trip include catching a few notable cargo-heavies, a couple cargo feeders, and a Frontier Airlines Airbus A320neo, which marks my first time seeing the base-model of the new A320neo family!

Icelandair Boeing 757-256 (TF-FIR) "Vatnajökull" arriving on 28R as ICE665 from Reykjavik-Keflavik. I am absolutely thrilled to finally photograph this beautiful livery commemorating 80 years of aviation in Iceland!

This livery represents the beauty and grandeur of the Vatnajökull glacier, located in southeast Iceland. It is the largest glacier in all of Europe, covering 8% of Iceland and is up to 3,280 feet (1,000 meters) thick. Ice, water, and tectonic plate movements have shaped Vatnajökull’s surrounding landscape over a 1,000 year time period and the area surrounding the glacier forms Vatnajökull National Park, Europe's largest natural reserve.

Interestingly, Vatnajökull glacier sits on of one of the world’s most active volcanic fields, where the saying "Fire meets Ice" becomes quite literal! Naturally, this glacier holds a special place in the hearts of many Icelandic people.

ICE665 clearing the runway to taxi to the gate to processed by customs. Three years ago, I saw Icelandair's other special livery, "Hekla Aurora." Seeing both of these spectacular liveries makes me want to visit Iceland one day!
