About This Blog:

The primary purpose of this blog is to showcase the best of my aviation photography. As such, you will find links to my main aviation gallery on Facebook containing photos from aircraft spotting, some kind of aviation event such as air shows and fly-in events, as well as aviation museums. I also critique my flights on commercial airlines and the services they provide. Occassionally, you'll find personally written, independent articles based on news and current events involving aviation. And of course, I'll put up links to official and unofficial aviation-related websites when I find them. And when time permits, I'll talk and discuss about anything involving aviation. But most importantly, this is my way to document my journey into the aviation industry!

Gallery Update: 'Aluminum Overcast' Airborne

Yesterday, I went to Salem-McNary Field to go see the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) B-17G Flying Fortress nicknamed "Aluminum Overcast" on display at the B-17 Alliance Museum & Restoration Facility. Today, on this the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, with American flags flying at half-staff, I decided to go back to the airport and see "Aluminum Overcast" again, this time in flight. In addition to that, more photos from planespotting while on the ramp as well as from the B-17 Alliance Museum & Restoration Facility. Here are the links:

One can only imagine what it must have been like to see and hear dozens of these flying back in the 1940s...

Lucky passengers in a experience of a lifetime.

On final approach.

Moments from touch down.

On landing roll.

Clearing the runway.

Taxiing back to parking for static display.

The power of four Wright R-1820-97 "Cyclone" turbosupercharged radial engines at work. Each engine puts out 1200 Horsepower each!

No doubt a beautiful aircraft from all angles.

Commencing engine shutdown with Salem Control Tower in the background.

Cessna 550 Citation II (N458N) taxiing out for departure. Note the clam shell reverse thrust momentarily engaged.

Cessna 550 Citation II (N458N) rotating.

Mooney M20J (N201VK) taxiing out for departure.

Mercy Flights Bell 407 (N119MF) departing.

Van's RV-12 (N65JW) taxiing to parking after arrival.

The B-17 Alliance Group's B-17 nose section, which was completely restored just recently. They brought it outside and I just couldn't resist getting a photo of it!
