Just recently, I noticed someone posted a photo of an Allegiant Air Airbus A319 sporting the airline's new livery on one of the aviation Facebook pages I follow. I punched in that Airbus' tail number into FlightAware and looked up the plane's past flights and I found that it's mostly been based out of Oakland and Phoenix and has been flying routes in the western portion of the country, including Provo! After getting an idea of where this Airbus has been, it became a waiting game until it was scheduled to fly into Provo the next time. I didn't have to wait long because I saw it was scheduled to fly into Provo from Oakland today! So naturally, I headed out to the dike road and went plane-spotting specifically to catch the new livery!
At the end of July 2016, Allegiant announced plans to acquire twelve brand-new Airbus A320s. This was significant because Allegiant, a carrier historically known for operating jets acquired second-hand (and for a cheaper price), made an aircraft order direct from the manufacturer for the first time in its history. Along with this announcement, the company unveiled plans for a modification the airline's livery. Narrowed down to two possible variations to the new livery, Allegiant left it to to vote among its employees. From a design perspective, both livery proposals refreshes the existing “Sunburst Tail” livery Allegiant's known for. Following a quick polling period, the airline quietly announced that the new livery will be comprised with forward-leaning "sun stripes," adding a little more color variety to a scheme that has become somewhat dull over time. From here on out, all incoming Airbuses (both used and brand-new) will be delivered to Allegiant in the new livery as the carrier continues to transition into an all-Airbus fleet. Airbus A319s and A320s already in operation with the carrier will also get re-painted over time, while the MD-80s and the two remaining 757s will be withdrawn in the current livery. Here's the link:

Allegiant Air Airbus A319-111 (N309NV) sporting the airline's new livery on short final for 13 arriving from Oakland as AAY1004. Obviously, this is my first time catching this new livery and I couldn't be more pleased in photographing it! Airframe first delivered to EasyJet as G-EZBP in April 2007. It was then transferred to EasyJet Switzerland as HB-JZS in January 2010. It was then transferred back to EasyJet in the U.K. in February 2016 before being withdrawn from the fleet a year later. Allegiant acquired the aircraft in April of this year and put into revenue service just one month ago. |

Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee (N4844L) on short final for 13. |

Smoke Jumper De Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otter/VistaLiner (N97AR) taking 13 for departure as JUMPER 97. This was a pleasant surprise to see the venerable Twin Otter here in Provo! Formerly flew as an Airborne Research platform before being converted for smoke jumping. This aircraft was loaded with a smokejumper crew to work a fire in the Pocatello area. Stay safe out there guys! |

Glasair GlaStar GS-1 (N199GS) over the numbers for 13. |
|
Robinson R44 Raven II (N61NM) flying the missed approach procedure in visual conditions for 13. |

N309NV taking 13 on departure back to Oakland as AAY1005. I gotta say, I'm loving this new livery as it adds a little color-variety to the boring Euro-white paint that spotters have come to abhor! |
